INTRODUCTION

Marriage is God's institution for companionship, holiness, fruitfulness, and raising a godly generation. Children are not accidents or burdens; they are God's precious heritage entrusted to parents for training, nurturing, and preparing for His kingdom.

One of the greatest ministries God gives to any parent is not merely providing food, clothing, education, or inheritance, but raising children who know, love, fear, obey, and serve God throughout their lives.

Many societal problems today, rebellion, crime, immorality, drug abuse, occultism, violence, disrespect, and spiritual ignorance, often begin with neglected parental responsibilities. The family is the first church, and parents are the first pastors, teachers, counselors, and examples their children will ever know.

WHAT IS MARRIAGE?

Biblically, marriage is a holy covenant established by God between one man and one woman for life.

Its purposes include:

• Fellowship and companionship.
• Mutual love and support.
• Raising godly children.
• Reflecting Christ's relationship with His Church.
• Building righteous families that glorify God.

Malachi 2:15 teaches that one major purpose of marriage is to produce godly offspring.

THE FRUITS AND BLESSINGS OF GODLY MARRIAGE

A godly marriage produces:

• Godly children.
• Peaceful homes.
• Spiritual inheritance.
• Long-lasting family legacy.
• Divine protection.
• Joy and fulfillment.
• Generational blessings.
• Kingdom impact.
• Prosperity with contentment.
• Honour before God and people.

WHO ARE CHILDREN?

According to Scripture:

• Children are gifts from God (Psalm 127:3).
• They belong first to God.
• Parents are stewards, not owners.
• Every child carries divine purpose.
• Every child must be trained for God's glory.

WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF PARENTS?

Parents are commanded to:

• Love their children genuinely.
• Pray consistently for them.
• Teach God's Word daily.
• Correct sinful behaviour.
• Discipline with love.
• Protect them physically and spiritually.
• Provide food, shelter, education, and care.
• Model godly living.
• Encourage their gifts.
• Lead family worship.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS

Parents are responsible for developing:

Spiritually

• Salvation.
• Prayer life.
• Bible study.
• Fear of God.
• Faith in Christ.
• Holiness.

Morally

• Honesty.
• Purity.
• Integrity.
• Respect.
• Humility.

Emotionally

• Love.
• Compassion.
• Forgiveness.
• Self-control.

Socially

• Good character.
• Hard work.
• Respect for authority.
• Kindness.
• Service to others.

HOW TO RAISE GODLY CHILDREN BIBLICALLY

1. Lead them to Christ early

Jesus welcomed children.

Matthew 19:13–15

Never assume children are too young to know God.

2. Teach God's Word daily

Deuteronomy 6:6–7

Teaching should happen:

• Morning
• Evening
• During meals
• During travel
• During family devotion
• Through daily conversations

3. Be their first example

Children imitate parents.

They learn:

• Prayer
• Speech
• Temper
• Giving
• Worship
• Marriage
• Respect
• Forgiveness

They often become what they repeatedly observe.

4. Catch them young

Proverbs 22:6

Early training shapes lifelong habits.

Never postpone spiritual training.

5. Discipline consistently

Discipline is love.

Correction should be:

• Timely
• Fair
• Prayerful
• Without anger
• Without abuse
• With explanation

6. Pray over them continually

Parents should daily pray for:

• Salvation
• Wisdom
• Protection
• Purity
• Destiny
• Good friends
• Future spouse
• Career
• Ministry
• Divine purpose

7. Bring them to church faithfully

Let children grow:

• Hearing God's Word.
• Worshipping.
• Serving.
• Fellowshipping.
• Developing spiritual gifts.

8. Teach obedience

Obedience begins at home before it appears in society.

9. Teach hard work

Avoid raising entitled children.

Teach:

• Responsibility
• Service
• Diligence
• Stewardship

10. Build family altar

Daily family worship strengthens faith.

WHEN SHOULD PARENTS TEACH, GUIDE, CORRECT, DISCIPLINE AND CHASTISE?

The Bible teaches parents to begin early and consistently, not only after children become rebellious.

Parents should instruct and correct:

• During infancy through simple godly habits.
• Throughout childhood with loving instruction.
• During adolescence with wisdom, patience, accountability, and clear boundaries.
• During young adulthood through counsel, prayer, and continued encouragement.

Correction should be given as soon as wrong attitudes or behaviours appear, with love and a desire for restoration rather than humiliation (Hebrews 12:5–11).

WHY PARENTS MUST NEVER NEGLECT THEIR CHILDREN

Neglect produces:

• Spiritual emptiness.
• Moral confusion.
• Rebellion.
• Wrong friendships.
• Drug addiction.
• Sexual immorality.
• Cultism.
• Crime.
• Broken families.
• Eternal loss.

Parents who abandon spiritual instruction leave their children vulnerable to influences that oppose God's truth.

HOW CHILDREN LEARN FROM PARENTS

Children watch more than they listen.

They learn from how parents:

• Speak.
• Pray.
• Handle money.
• Treat each other.
• Handle anger.
• Forgive.
• Serve God.
• Respect authority.
• Honour commitments.
• Respond during trials.

A parent's life is often the first Bible a child reads.

WAYS NOT TO RAISE CHILDREN

Avoid:

• Prayerless parenting.
• Inconsistent discipline.
• Harshness and abuse.
• Neglect.
• Hypocrisy.
• Constant criticism.
• Comparing children.
• Favoritism.
• Encouraging dishonesty.
• Ignoring spiritual development.
• Allowing ungodly media to become their primary teacher.
• Refusing correction because of misplaced affection.

CONSEQUENCES OF FAILING TO TRAIN CHILDREN

For children:

• Disobedience.
• Lack of purpose.
• Addiction.
• Immorality.
• Rebellion.
• Spiritual blindness.
• Poor decision-making.

For parents:

• Grief.
• Shame.
• Family conflict.
• Regret.
• Broken relationships.
• Missed opportunity to leave a godly legacy.

BENEFITS OF RAISING GODLY CHILDREN

For children:

• Salvation.
• Wisdom.
• Good character.
• Divine protection.
• Fruitful marriages.
• Favour with God and people.
• Purposeful living.
• Eternal hope.

For parents:

• Joy.
• Honour.
• Peace.
• Generational blessing.
• A lasting spiritual legacy.
• The privilege of seeing their children walk with God.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLES

Positive

• Abraham (Genesis 18:19)
• Hannah and Samuel (1 Samuel 1–2)
• Lois and Eunice with Timothy (2 Timothy 1:5)
• Joseph and Mary caring for Jesus (Luke 2)

Negative Lessons

• Eli failed to restrain his sons (1 Samuel 2–4).
• Samuel's sons did not follow his ways (1 Samuel 8), reminding us that parents should remain intentional and vigilant in training and accountability.

DELIVERANCE MESSAGE

Every evil influence fighting the destinies of children can be overcome through Christ. Parents should reject every covenant of darkness, dedicate their homes to God, maintain a life of prayer, and trust the Holy Spirit to transform hearts. God is able to restore wandering children and strengthen faithful families.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

• My household shall serve the Lord.
• My children shall not depart from the ways of God.
• Every evil influence over my children is broken in Jesus' name.
• My children shall excel spiritually, academically, morally, and professionally.
• They shall become lights in their generation.
• No weapon formed against my family shall prosper.
• The fear of the Lord shall rest upon my children.
• They shall fulfill God's purpose for their lives.
• Our family shall become a testimony of God's grace.
• The covenant of God shall remain upon my household from generation to generation.

DELIVERANCE PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, thank You for the gift of children and the blessing of family, in the name of Jesus.
2. Lord Jesus, forgive every failure in my parenting and help me walk in Your wisdom, in the name of Jesus.
3. Every inherited evil pattern affecting my family, break by the power of Jesus Christ, in the name of Jesus.
4. Every spirit of rebellion operating in my home, depart in Jesus' name, in the name of Jesus.
5. Holy Spirit, fill my children with the fear and knowledge of God, in the name of Jesus.
6. Father, give me grace to teach, correct, and discipline with love and wisdom, in the name of Jesus.
7. Every ungodly friendship assigned against my children, be scattered, in the name of Jesus.
8. Every satanic agenda against the destiny of my children, be destroyed, in the name of Jesus.
9. Lord, preserve my children from immorality, addiction, violence, and deception, in the name of Jesus.
10. Let my home become a place of prayer, peace, holiness, and joyful obedience, in the name of Jesus.
11. Raise my children to become faithful disciples, godly spouses, responsible citizens, and effective servants of Christ, in the name of Jesus.
12. Let generations after me continue to walk in the ways of the Lord until Christ returns, in the name of Jesus.

ALTAR CALL

If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, today is the day to begin. Christ alone can forgive sin, transform hearts, and make families new. Repent, believe the gospel, and receive Him as your Lord and Saviour. As parents and guardians, commit yourselves afresh to raising children in the nurture and instruction of the Lord, trusting His grace to guide your family each day.
