DESTROYING THE POWER OF THE STRONGMAN OF MARRIAGE FAILURE

ANCHOR SCRIPTURES

  • Matthew 19:1–30

  • Matthew 12:29–32

  • Luke 11:21–22

INTRODUCTION

Marriage is God’s divine institution established for companionship, fruitfulness, peace, and godly legacy. From the beginning, God ordained marriage to reflect love, unity, holiness, and covenant relationship. Yet many marriages today are under severe attacks resulting in separation, bitterness, abuse, confusion, delay in marriage, divorce, unfaithfulness, barrenness, emotional pain, and repeated disappointment.

Behind many persistent marital crises, the Bible reveals the operation of spiritual strongmen. Jesus said:

“Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man?” — Matthew 12:29

This sermon focuses on identifying, confronting, and destroying every strongman assigned against marriages and marital destinies.

WHAT IS MARRIAGE FAILURE?

Marriage failure is the collapse of God’s original purpose and peace in marriage. It is a condition where a marriage loses love, unity, trust, joy, spiritual harmony, and covenant stability.

Marriage failure may appear as:

  • Constant conflict and hatred

  • Emotional separation

  • Infidelity and betrayal

  • Domestic violence

  • Lack of communication

  • Divorce or abandonment

  • Sexual immorality

  • Financial chaos

  • Barrenness and frustration

  • Spiritual coldness in the home

  • Delayed marriage or repeated broken relationships

God never designed marriage for destruction. According to Matthew 19:6:

“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

WHAT CAUSES MARRIAGE FAILURE?

1. Lack of Godly Foundation

A marriage without Christ becomes vulnerable to satanic attacks.

Solution:

  • Build the marriage on prayer, holiness, and the Word of God.

2. Sin and Disobedience

Fornication, adultery, pride, lies, bitterness, and unforgiveness open doors to darkness.

Solution:

  • Genuine repentance and holy living.

3. Communication Breakdown

Silence, insults, harshness, and emotional neglect destroy unity.

Solution:

  • Practice love, listening, patience, and understanding.

4. Financial Mismanagement

Irresponsibility and secrecy over money create tension.

Solution:

  • Transparency, discipline, and agreement in financial decisions.

5. Evil Spiritual Attacks

Some marital problems are spiritually sponsored through curses, covenants, witchcraft, ancestral bondage, and evil manipulation.

Solution:

  • Aggressive prayers, fasting, deliverance, and covenant with God.

6. Wrong Choice of Partner

Ignoring God’s direction can lead to painful unions.

Solution:

  • Seek God’s guidance before marriage.

WHO IS A STRONGMAN?

A strongman is a satanic power or controlling spirit assigned to dominate, oppress, hinder, and destroy lives or destinies.

According to Luke 11:21:

“When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace.”

Spiritually, a strongman operates like a territorial controller enforcing bondage, confusion, delay, and destruction.

WHAT IS THE POWER OF THE STRONGMAN IN MARRIAGE?

The strongman of marriage failure manipulates:

  • Delay in marriage

  • Repeated broken relationships

  • Hatred between couples

  • Infidelity

  • Sexual perversion

  • Barrenness

  • Domestic violence

  • Poverty and hardship

  • Misunderstanding

  • Divorce

  • Spiritual attacks in dreams

  • Strange addictions

  • Emotional oppression

  • Evil family patterns

Their goal is to destroy homes and stop godly destinies.

WHAT STRENGTHENS THE STRONGMAN IN A MARRIAGE?

1. Persistent Sin

Sin gives legal access to demonic oppression.

2. Prayerlessness

A spiritually weak home becomes an easy target.

3. Unforgiveness

Bitterness empowers darkness.

4. Ancestral Covenants

Family patterns of divorce, polygamy, and marital instability may continue without deliverance.

5. Occult Involvement

Consulting dark powers opens dangerous spiritual doors.

6. Sexual Immorality

Impure relationships invite spiritual pollution.

7. Negative Words and Curses

Words spoken in anger can empower destruction.

WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE STRONGMAN OF MARRIAGE FAILURE?

According to John 10:10, the enemy comes:

  • To steal joy

  • To kill love and peace

  • To destroy marriages and destinies

Their mission includes:

  • Separating couples

  • Blocking marriages

  • Destroying children’s future

  • Creating shame and reproach

  • Fighting spiritual growth

  • Promoting confusion and hatred

  • Turning homes into battlefields

HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE THE OPERATION OF A STRONGMAN?

Signs Include:

  • Constant unexplained quarrels

  • Repeated disappointments in relationships

  • Hatred without reason

  • Dreams of spiritual spouses

  • Fear of commitment

  • Sudden loss of affection

  • Persistent adultery

  • Strange manipulation and control

  • Family history of failed marriages

  • Continuous sorrow despite efforts

  • Delayed marriage despite qualifications

  • Repeated separation or divorce patterns

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TO DESTROY THEM?

1. Surrender Completely to Christ

Jesus is stronger than every strongman.

Luke 11:22 says:

“But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour…”

2. Repent Deeply

Break every legal ground through confession and repentance.

Some battles require spiritual warfare.

4. Renounce Evil Covenants

Reject every inherited bondage and ungodly dedication.

Use Scripture aggressively against the enemy.

Holiness weakens satanic operations.

7. Build Family Altars

Pray together as couples and families consistently.

Matthew 12:29 teaches that the strongman must first be bound.

Pray with authority in the name of Jesus.

Cancel every ancestral and satanic agreement operating against marriage.

Reject repeated cycles of divorce, abuse, and disappointment.

4. Recover Stolen Virtues

Pray for restoration of peace, love, joy, fertility, unity, and trust.

5. Use Prophetic Declarations

Declare God’s promises daily over your marriage and destiny.

6. Anoint Your Home

Dedicate your home and marriage continually to God.

DEALING WITH YOUR STRONGHOLD

THE WORDS OF TRUTH WEEKLY DIGEST
May 3rd, 2026

𝕋𝕆ℙ𝕀ℂ:
DEALING WITH YOUR STRONGHOLD

Anchor Scriptures

  • Gospel of Luke 11:21–23 – “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace…”
  • Second Epistle to the Corinthians 10:2–5 – “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal…”
  • Gospel of John 10:10 – “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…”
  • Acts of the Apostles 1:16–18

WHAT IS A STRONGHOLD?

A stronghold is a spiritual fortress, a deeply rooted pattern of thought, habit, belief, or bondage that controls a person against the will of God. It can exist in the mind, emotions, or behavior, and is often reinforced over time.

From 2 Corinthians 10:4, strongholds are arguments, imaginations, and thoughts that oppose God’s truth.

Examples:

  • Fear, addiction, lust, anger, pride
  • Negative thinking, unbelief, bitterness
  • Generational patterns and repeated sin cycles

HOW STRONGHOLDS OPERATE

From Luke 11:21–23, Jesus describes a “strong man” guarding his palace:

  1. OccupationIt takes residence in your mind/life
  2. ControlIt dictates actions and reactions
  3. DefenseIt resists change and truth
  4. ReinforcementIt grows stronger through repetition

Strongholds operate through:

  • Deception (false beliefs feel like truth)
  • Habits (repeated actions become bondage)
  • Emotional triggers (anger, fear, rejection)
  • Spiritual influence (demonic oppression in some cases)

WHERE DO STRONGHOLDS ORIGINATE FROM?

  1. Sinful choices (habitual disobedience)
  2. Trauma and past experiences
  3. Generational influences
  4. Wrong teachings or beliefs
  5. Unforgiveness and bitterness
  6. Demonic entry points (open doors)

WHAT FEEDS AND DEFENDS YOUR STRONGHOLD?

A stronghold survives because it is being fed and protected:

  • Negative confession (“I can’t change”)
  • Wrong associations
  • Secret sin
  • Unrenewed mind
  • Avoidance of truth
  • Pride and justification

What you tolerate, you empower.

OPPORTUNITIES YOU GIVE YOUR STRONGHOLD

  • Entertaining sinful thoughts
  • Keeping toxic relationships
  • Refusing correction
  • Ignoring the Word of God
  • Living without accountability
  • Consuming corrupt media/content

EFFECTS OF STRONGHOLD IN A BELIEVER’S LIFE

  • Spiritual stagnation
  • Delayed destiny
  • Repeated failure cycles
  • Loss of peace and joy
  • Weak prayer life
  • Open doors to oppression
  • Separation from God’s full purpose

John 10:10 reveals the enemy’s goal: steal, kill, destroy.

WHAT HAPPENS TO BELIEVERS LABOURING UNDER STRONGHOLD?

(Acts 1:16–18 – Example: Judas Iscariot)

  • Misguided decisions
  • Loss of divine destiny
  • Spiritual destruction
  • Regret and downfall

A stronghold unchecked can destroy a life that once walked with God.

WHAT IS (ARE) YOUR STRONGHOLD(S)?

Ask yourself honestly:

  • What do I struggle to stop?
  • What thought keeps repeating?
  • Where do I constantly fail?
  • What do I hide from others?

Your strongest struggle often reveals your strongest stronghold.

HOW TO DISCOVER HIDDEN STRONGHOLDS

  1. Prayer and Holy Spirit revelation
  2. Study of the Word (truth exposes lies)
  3. Patterns of repeated failure
  4. Feedback from spiritual mentors
  5. Self-examination (Psalm 139:23–24 principle)

HOW TO DEAL WITH AND DESTROY YOUR STRONGHOLD

1. IDENTIFY IT (Awareness)

You cannot defeat what you refuse to confront.

2. REPENT (Spiritual Cleansing)

Break agreement with sin and return to God sincerely.

3. RENEW YOUR MIND (Truth Replacement)

Replace lies with truth (2 Corinthians 10:5)

  • Speak God’s Word daily
  • Reject negative thoughts

4. BREAK AGREEMENT (Spiritual Authority)

Declare:

“I reject and renounce every stronghold in my life in Jesus’ name!”

5. CLOSE DOORS (Discipline)

  • Cut off triggers
  • Change environment
  • Avoid temptation pathways

6. USE SPIRITUAL WEAPONS

  • Prayer and fasting
  • The Word of God
  • Faith declarations

7. SUBMIT TO GOD (James 4:7 principle)

Submission brings authority over the enemy.

8. CONSISTENCY (Transformation)

Freedom is not just an event, it is maintained daily.
