THE MARRIAGE THAT OPERATES UNDER GOD’S BLESSINGS

INTRODUCTION

Marriage was not invented by man; it was established by God. Before governments, cultures, traditions, and human institutions existed, God created the first marriage between Adam and Eve.

Marriage is not only a social relationship; it is a divine covenant designed to carry God's purpose, blessing, multiplication, protection, and glory on earth.

A marriage may exist physically but operate outside God's blessings when it is built on wrong foundations, disobedience, bitterness, selfishness, or ungodly patterns.

A marriage operating under God's blessings is one where:

• God is the foundation
• His Word is the authority
• Husband and wife walk in covenant faithfulness
• Love, honour, forgiveness, and submission operate
• The purpose of God is fulfilled through the union

THE DIVINE ORIGIN AND COVENANT OF MARRIAGE

Genesis 1:27–28

“So God created man in his own image... male and female created he them. And God blessed them...”

Before God gave Adam and Eve a command, He first released a blessing.

This shows that marriage was created as a blessed institution.

The first blessing upon marriage included:

1. Fruitfulness

Marriage was designed to produce life, ideas, destiny, and impact.

2. Multiplication

God's intention is increase, not continuous struggle.

3. Dominion

A godly marriage carries authority to overcome challenges.

4. Purpose

Marriage is a partnership for fulfilling God's assignment.

WHAT IS THE COVENANT OF MARRIAGE?

A covenant is a binding agreement established before God.

Marriage covenant involves:

1. Covenant of Faithfulness

“I belong to you, and I will remain committed.”

2. Covenant of Love

Not only emotional love but sacrificial love.

(Ephesians 5:25)

3. Covenant of Honour

Respecting the value and dignity of each other.

4. Covenant of Purity

Guarding the marriage against adultery, lust, and immoral relationships.

5. Covenant of Unity

Two people becoming one in purpose.

Genesis 2:24:

“They shall be one flesh.”

6. Covenant of Responsibility

Both partners carrying their God-given responsibilities.

WHAT MUST MARRIAGE BE ESTABLISHED ON?

1. God’s Presence

A marriage without God’s presence becomes a battlefield of human weaknesses.

Psalm 127:1:

“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”

2. The Word of God

God’s Word provides:

• wisdom
• correction
• direction
• healing
• restoration

3. Prayer

A praying couple invites divine intervention.

4. Love and Sacrifice

Marriage is not about who wins arguments but who protects the covenant.

5. Forgiveness

No marriage survives without forgiveness.

6. Humility

Pride destroys what love builds.

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A MARRIAGE UNDER GOD’S BLESSING

According to 1 Peter 3:1–22:

1. Respect Between Husband and Wife

1 Peter 3:7:

“Giving honour unto the wife…”

A husband must not treat his wife as an enemy but as a partner of grace.

2. A Gentle and Peaceful Spirit

1 Peter 3:4:

“The ornament of a meek and quiet spirit…”

God values inner character above outward appearance.

3. Mutual Understanding

1 Peter 3:7:

“Dwell with them according to knowledge…”

A blessed marriage requires understanding.

4. Agreement in Spirit

Conflict gives room for the enemy.

5. Compassion

1 Peter 3:8:

“Be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another…”

BLESSINGS OF A MARRIAGE UNDER GOD

1. Divine Protection

God becomes the defender of the home.

2. Peace in the Home

The atmosphere changes when God rules.

3. Fruitfulness

Genesis 9:1:

“Be fruitful, and multiply…”

Fruitfulness includes:

• children
• prosperity
• creativity
• influence
• success

4. Generational Blessing

A blessed marriage affects children and future generations.

5. Strength in Difficult Seasons

Ecclesiastes 4:12:

“A threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

6. Answered Prayers

1 Peter 3:7 warns that wrong marital relationships can hinder prayers.

A healthy marriage creates spiritual alignment.

WHY MUST MARRIAGE OPERATE UNDER GOD’S BLESSING?

1. Because Marriage Faces Spiritual Attacks

The enemy attacks what carries God's purpose.

2. Because Marriage Affects Destiny

Many destinies are helped or damaged through marriage.

3. Because the Home Is a Spiritual Foundation

A broken home can affect generations.

4. Because God Designed Marriage for Glory

Marriage is meant to reveal God's wisdom.

WHAT BRINGS GOD’S BLESSINGS INTO MARRIAGE?

1. Salvation and Relationship with God

A home without God struggles to carry divine order.

2. Obedience to God’s Instructions

Blessings follow obedience.

3. Honour Between Couples

Dishonour drives away peace.

4. Forgiveness

Unforgiveness blocks spiritual flow.

5. Prayer Altar in the Home

A family altar attracts God's presence.

6. Removing Ungodly Foundations

Examples:

• inherited marital curses
• strange covenants
• adultery
• bitterness
• hatred
• occult involvement
• family patterns

SIGNS THAT A MARRIAGE OPERATES UNDER GOD’S BLESSING

1. Peace even during challenges
2. Respect and honour
3. Ability to forgive
4. Growing love
5. Spiritual unity
6. Joy in the home
7. Fruitfulness
8. Protection from destruction
9. Children raised in godly atmosphere
10. The home becomes a place of refuge

THINGS THAT FIGHT GOD’S BLESSING IN MARRIAGE

1. Unforgiveness
2. Adultery
3. Pride
4. Anger and violence
5. Lack of communication
6. Financial irresponsibility
7. Evil foundations
8. Wrong counsel
9. Disrespect
10. Absence of God

DELIVERANCE DECLARATIONS

Raise your hands and declare:

1. Every power attacking my marriage destiny, be destroyed in the name of Jesus.

2. Every evil foundation inherited from my family line affecting my marriage, break by fire.

3. Every covenant working against peace in my home, expire now.

4. Every spirit of misunderstanding and division, leave my marriage.

5. Every strange voice speaking against my home, be silenced.

6. Every satanic plan to scatter my family, fail completely.

7. My home shall not become a battlefield; it shall become God's dwelling place.

8. The blessing of the Lord shall rest upon my marriage.

9. My children shall inherit peace, favour, and divine purpose.

10. My marriage shall fulfil God's original plan.

REPENTANCE PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus,

I come before You and acknowledge that every marriage needs Your presence.

Forgive me for every way I have contributed to pain, division, anger, bitterness, or dishonour.

Cleanse my heart from every wrong attitude.

Every door opened through disobedience, unforgiveness, pride, and ungodly actions, I close today.

Lord, restore what has been damaged.

Let Your love return.

Let Your peace return.

Let Your glory return.

Make my home a testimony of Your faithfulness.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS

I decree:

• My marriage will not die in my hands.
• My home will not become a place of sorrow.
• The foundation of my marriage shall be rebuilt by God.
• Every storm against my family shall become a testimony.
• The blessing of Genesis 1:28 shall manifest in my home.
• I shall enjoy peace, honour, love, and divine favour.
• My household shall serve the Lord.
