𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING: THE FOOD OF GOD
KEY TEXTS
INTRODUCTION
Food sustains life. Every living thing requires nourishment to function, grow, and remain active. Spiritually speaking, God has chosen praise and thanksgiving as what delights Him, attracts His presence, and activates His power.
God does not eat physical food like man, yet Scripture repeatedly reveals that praise and thanksgiving minister to Him. When God is “fed” with praise, He responds with His presence, power, and intervention.
Psalm 22:3 – “But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.”
Praise is not merely what we do; it is a spiritual environment where God chooses to dwell.
SECTION ONE: PRAISE AS A LIFESTYLE (Psalm 34:1–4)
“I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1)
Key Truths from Psalm 34
Praise is intentional – “I will bless the Lord…”
Praise is perpetual – “at all times”
Praise is vocal – “continually be in my mouth”
Praise attracts deliverance – “I sought the Lord, and He heard me…”
David did not say when things are good. He praised during pressure, persecution, and pursuit.
Spiritual Insight
Praise is not a reaction; it is a revelation.
Praise declares God’s sovereignty above circumstances.
Thanksgiving reminds God’s people who God is, not what the situation says.
Complaining magnifies problems; praise magnifies God.
SECTION TWO: THANKSGIVING AS A COVENANT TRIGGER (Psalm 136:1–26)
Psalm 136 is unique because every verse ends with the same declaration:
What This Psalm Teaches
Thanksgiving reminds God’s people of His acts
Thanksgiving establishes continuity of divine mercy
Thanksgiving keeps covenant consciousness alive
God does not forget His works, but thanksgiving causes men to remember God’s faithfulness.
Why Repetition Matters
God wants thanksgiving to be deliberate and sustained
Gratitude aligns the heart with God’s eternal nature
Mercy flows where thanksgiving is practiced
Thanksgiving is faith acknowledging what God has done, while trusting Him for what He will do.
SECTION THREE: PRAISE THAT BREAKS CHAINS (Acts 16:23–27)
Paul and Silas were:
Shackled
Humiliated
Yet the Bible says:
“At midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God…” (Acts 16:25)
The Result
Key Revelation
Praise does not ignore pain; it overrules it.
They did not sing for deliverance; they sang because God is worthy, and deliverance followed.
When praise ascends, divine intervention descends.
WHY PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING ARE CALLED “THE FOOD OF GOD”
God inhabits praise (Psalm 22:3)
Praise enthrones God in our circumstances
Just as food strengthens the body, praise strengthens the manifestation of God’s power among His people.
ILLUSTRATION
THE ALTAR PRINCIPLE
In the Old Testament, sacrifices were called “a sweet-smelling savor unto the Lord.”
Today, praise and thanksgiving have replaced animal sacrifices.
Hebrews 13:15 – “By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually…”
Praise is not cheap, it is often costly, especially when offered in pain.
PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
Praise God before the answer comes
Thank God even when the process is unclear
CALL TO HEART CHECK
When pressure comes, do you pray or complain?
When delay happens, do you praise or panic?
When answers seem slow, do you trust or murmur?
Your response determines your atmosphere.
PRAYER POINTS (Pray Slowly and Intentionally)
Father, I thank You for who You are, not only for what You do, in the name of Jesus.
Lord, forgive me for every moment of murmuring and ingratitude, in the name of Jesus.
Let my life become a living altar of praise unto You, in the name of Jesus.
Father, inhabit my praise and take Your rightful place in my life, in the name of Jesus.
Every chain assigned to limit my destiny, break by the power of praise, in the name of Jesus.
Lord, turn my midnight season into a testimony through praise, in the name of Jesus.
By thanksgiving, I activate divine mercy over my life and household, in the name of Jesus.
Let every closed door respond to the sound of praise, in the name of Jesus.
Father, let praise silence every voice of accusation and fear, in the name of Jesus.
I declare that my mouth will continually speak the praise of the Lord, in Jesus’ name.
PROPHETIC DECLARATION
I decree and declare:
As I lift praise and thanksgiving unto God, every prison around my life opens, every chain falls, mercy speaks for me, and God is glorified in my situation, in the name of Jesus.
CLOSING WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT
Praise is not the end of the battle, it is the weapon that ends the battle.
Thanksgiving is not a reaction, it is a spiritual position.
When God is fed with praise, His power is released for your deliverance.
Go and live a life of praise.
